The Australian Sailing Team (AST) is proud to announce our new partnership with Cheeki, an Australian brand of stainless steel water bottles and lifestyle products, who will become the Team’s official hydration supplier.
Cheeki ticked two major boxes for the team’s preparation for the Games. The innovative company will provide quality products to keep the AST cool and hydrated as well as keeping with Australian Sailing’s efforts to reduce single-use plastic as a sport and organisation.
“We approached Cheeki looking for quality products to keep the athletes cool while competing,” Australian Sailing CEO Ben Houston said. “With the AST wanting to reduce plastic, a partnership with Cheeki was the perfect fit.”
Cheeki was established in 2009 in Sydney becoming the first brand of stainless steel water bottles in Australia, with the ambitious goal of eliminating single-use plastic containers with quality stainless steel alternatives.
Cheeki’s founder and Director Simon Karlik is very excited about the new partnership with the AST, not only to help to the team to win Gold but also to work with sailing as a whole to help reduce plastic use and plastic pollution in our oceans.
“Cheeki is all about providing healthy, quality hydration and I’m really excited to have Cheeki keeping the team cool and hydrated on their road to Gold in Japan later this year.” Said Karlik.
Cheeki was founded on the idea of eliminating single-use plastic food and beverage containers in an effort to reduce plastic waste and polluting our beautiful oceans. Cheeki, the AST, and sailors across the country, share a passion and respect for our waterways and oceans.
“Australian Sailing and Cheeki both share the same passion of having clean oceans free from plastic and with the sporting world being saturated by plastic bottle companies we thought it was fitting to team up with a sport who are promoting clean oceans on the world stage,” Karlik said.
“World Sailing has put an ambitious plan in place with the UN’s Clean Seas program and we are very much looking forward in helping Australian Sailing follow suit in providing a cleaner, plastic-free playground.”
Australian Sailing mirrors Karlik’s vision for the future of the partnership, looking to work together in both the performance and the sustainability aspects of the sport.
“The combination of high performance and sustainability matches perfectly with the values of our athletes,” Houston said. “We look forward to our new partnership with Cheeki and what the next year will bring.”
