The Low Down On All Things Environmentally Friendly

As we are in our third week of Plastic Free July taking the steps to live a life of less plastic, we want to give you our favourite plastic free swaps.

Here at Cheeki we understand that going completely plastic free can almost be impossible in our busy lives but don’t let that shy you away from trying to live the life of less plastic. In some cases you will need to buy a plastic bottle of water than suffer from dehydration! Sometimes you just can’t avoid it.

So, we have put together a list of swaps that the Cheeki team have implemented thus far to avoid being in a plastic filled situation.

  1. Bring your own.

Single-use plastic bags, water bottles, takeaway coffee cups with reusable bags, water bottles and coffee mugs. It’s easy to forget but we suggest placing reusable products in every bag you use so you’re never empty handed.

  1. Saying NO

Say no to the plastic straw, say no to the plastic container. Either use a reusable item or just live without it. Drink without the straw.

  1. Take the non-plastic option

Plastic products can be bought in a more sustainable material. Things that you may not think of like bamboo toothbrushes, bamboo flossing kits, coconut dish washers, bars of soap and the list goes on.

  1. Smart Shopping

Head to your local bulk food store. Buy your goods in refillable containers instead of plastic packaging.

  1. Swap

Make the swap from single-use to reusable. Instead of using cling wrap swap for silicone wraps, bees wax wraps or even foil that can be recycled. Swap cleaning bottles to cleaning tablets. Swap plastic zip lock bags for paper bags. There are lots of options out there now which makes it easier to make the swap.

  1. Be positive!

There is so much doom and gloom surrounding plastic and using plastic. In reality, you’re not going to kill a turtle if you are given a plastic straw. It’s important to stay positive and remember it’s the little things we do as consumers that will bring about a big positive change.
